Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist 


Organization:         Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish 

Location:               979 Behrman Hwy, Terrytown, LA 70056 

Reports To:            ESS Director  

Hiring Status:         At-Will 

FLSA Status:         Exempt 

FTE:                      1.0 

Schedule:              Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm 

Reporting Days:    190, 10 months 

Compensation:      Salary 

Starting Pay:          $70,000 - $92,000, DOE;  

Minimum Qualifications Required: 

  • Education:  Master's degree   
  • Experience:  Experience conducting Louisiana Bulletin 1508 Compliant speech evaluations. Preferred experience using eSER to draft IEPs and progress notes. 
  • Certification:  Current Louisiana Speech Pathologist License on file. 
  • Background: Clear FBI background check  
  • Language: Strong verbal and writing skills in English, Spanish fluency preferred

Job Duties 

Essential Duties 

  • Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. 

  • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.  

  • Ensure that all activities conform to federal, state, and school guidelines. 

  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school and community. 

  • Work effectively with community organizations. 

  • Appropriately operate all equipment as required. 

  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.  

  • Support the value of an inclusive education for all students.  

  • Support the philosophy and vision of Athlos Academies. 

  • Act as an IEP team member and/or IEP case manager to draft IEPs, create SMART goals, and progress monitor. 

General Duties 

  • Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems related to speech and language. 

  • Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions. Complete quarterly progress reports on student progress. 

  • Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.  

  • Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and reevaluation process.  

  • Participate as a team member in the school based MTSS process. 

  • Participate in the development of student IEPs. Act as the case manager for IEPs written for speech services only. 

  • Adhere to Louisiana state bulletins related to Special Education services. 

  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available. 

  • Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies. 

  • Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services. 

  • Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.  

  • Provide therapy, follow-ups, and/or consultation based on student IEP's.  

  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.  

  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences. 

  • Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.  

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others. 

  • Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management. 

  • Plan and implement transitional programs for students. 

  • Assist students in developing feelings of self worth and in making social adjustments which permit them to cope with disabilities.  

  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports as required through federal, state, and school-based guidelines. 

  • Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.  

  • Supervise and train staff members as assigned.  

  • Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.  

  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.  

  • See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.  

  • Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures.  

  • Keep accurate and detailed logs of all services provided. 

  • Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies.

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Classroom and video platforms such as: Zoom or Teams.   

  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage the entire classroom. 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. 

  • Experience working in diverse communities and a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives. 

  • Demonstrated integrity and high standards in managing information in a confidential and professional manner.
